Intro to the Age of Absolutism, 8/31

Overall, good work on the Chapter 1 test!  Today we looked at how the grades on the test broke down among my three classes (Per. 2, 3, & 5).  Remember, this is only the first test!  There is still lots of room for growth.  Keep on top of your reading and your homework assignments and you will be well on your way to success on the Chapter 2 test.

Norse CODE: VP Behavior Meetings, 8/30

Very nice job today, guys!! I was very proud of all of my classes during the Vice Principal's presentation of the behavior code in the theater.  You guys conducted yourselves like the mature, young adults that you are!!  Thanks for making me look good!

Chapter 1 Test, 8/29

Congrats guys, you have completed your first chapter test!!  We will discuss results and test corrections later this week.  Make sure to talk to me ASAP if you were absent today.

Today in Class:
  • Turn in Ch. 1 HW/Lecture Notes
  • Review Test Rules (see below)
  • Take Chapter 1 Test
  • Pick up a "Monarchs" packet when you finish your test
  • Homework: Begin reading Monarchs Section 1-2 (Key Terms and AB3 DUE: Wednesday!)
  • Week 3 At a Glance




Test rules will apply for every test this year.  They are as follows:

Test Rules
  • No bathroom passes (so go before the bell)
  • HW Packets
    • Staple HW in order
    • Staple Lecture Notes separately
    • Place notes on top of HW and put in the basket
  • Desks at the end of rows should be in testing position (facing forward). 
  • Take out quiet work for after you have completed the test.  You may NOT go into your backpack after the test has started.
  • No talking for any reason after the test has been handed out.  If you need a pencil/eraser/whatever, raise your hand and ask me.
  • NO CELL PHONES.  If I even see your phone, you will earn a ZERO for the test. (I will remind you of this rule, so it will come as no surprise.)  Turn it off and put it completely away in your backpack, NOT your pocket!

What a great end to the week!! As you prepare for your Chapter 1 Test on Monday, use this STUDY GUIDE as a reference. It is not an assignment...YOU DO NOT NEED TO TURN IT IN.  The study guide is to assist you as you prepare for the test.  If you can identify all of the ideas and terms, then you are on your way!  If you are still unfamiliar with anything you should go back to your HW and the chapter to make sure you understand each concept if you plan to be successful on the test on Monday.  If you have any questions, email me and I will do my best to respond in a timely fashion.

Quick reminder that you have Objectives Quiz #2 tomorrow.  It will be five questions, just like last week.  We added an additional objective on Tuesday, so your quiz will cover the following:

It was good to see all those Chromebooks in class today!  Make sure to keep them charged at night so they will last the entire class period!  You should plan to bring your Chromebook with you to school everyday.  If you have questions about appropriate use, bring your questions with you to the Vice Principal's behavior meeting next Tuesday, 8/30.  They will be able to answer your specific questions at that time.

Chromebook Mania!!

Great job, everyone!!  You guys handled Chromebook role out like pros!  Please remember to keep your Chromebooks charged at night so they are at 100% at the beginning of the school day.

Today in Class:

  • I stamped your completed Ch. 1.2 and 1.3 homework assignments.  I tried to talk to each of you about how to format your homework in order to receive your full points.  I know that it can be a bit confusing to learn new homework styles, but keep at it!! Don't give up if you get stuck, just come talk to me.  I put together this little reminder for you on How to Format Your Homework in case you need a quick reference guide.

Week 2 at a Glance

Happy Monday!  Welcome to Week 2 of Humanities II: World History!

In class we have an entire whiteboard dedicated to giving you an overview of our week "At a Glance."  The board gives you some basic info about what is coming up in class, what is being assigned, and what is due.  Please take an opportunity on Mondays to copy down some of that info into your student planner (or whatever calendar you have decided to keep for yourself.)

Here is a digital copy of Week 2 At a Glance.  (Please note that this document may be updated as we go to reflect any lessons that spill over into the next day, etc.)

Best First Week EVER!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the best first week EVER!!  I am so excited to you have you guys as my students this year!  I know it's going to be awesome!

To follow up on some of our discussion from Friday:

Homework DUE tomorrow (Monday, 8/22): Read Ch. 1.2 and complete key terms and Standard checks

ALSO DUE MONDAY: Chromebook Distribution Agreement and Responsible Use Policy Signature Sheet
For your convenience, here are copies of the hand out I distributed on Friday in English, Spanish, and Arabic.  (Please click on the language you prefer.) Remember to bring your school ID if you have one.

Announcements:

  • ASB- FIRST CLUB FAIR NEXT FRIDAY (8/26). If you want to start a club you can fill out a form below and submit. This is the first of two club fairs, its main objective is to just get kids signed up! Club Fair Form
  • Valhalla Student Planners are currently on sale by AVID.  To get yours, visit Ms. Naah in Room 207 or Ms. Conrique in Room 306
  • Bring your student ID on Tuesday for Chromebook Distribution.  If you do not have yours you should be able to pick it up in the library on Tuesday.  If you have not taken your photo yet, there will be stations in the library for creating your ID card (so make sure to brush your hair!) ;)

Objective Quiz #1, 8/18

Hi folks!!

To assist in your preparation for tomorrow's objective quiz I wanted to post some resources for you.


I will show you guys the Flocabulary video in class tomorrow (I can't post a link.)

Tomorrow's Quiz will have 5 multiple choice questions on it.  To do well, ask yourself if you can answer the following Objective questions:
  • Describe the five themes (and the subthemes) of geography.
  • How did the Greeks influence the development of democracy?
For those of you who did not turn in Ch. 1.1 HW, make sure to finish that tonight!!
